1-Building new learning environments
Digital Kids is engaged in developing creative learning environments, adopting various methods in various places. Curricula include electronic kits, craft and video production, just to name a few. Such programmes are introduced in places including 300 after school facilities and university’s classrooms.
Digital Kids also produces “Workshop Collection”, which is an event that gathers children’s workshops from all over Japan. “Workshop collection- Mini” was held in 2016 at Mita Campus, Keio Unviersity for the first time, in collaboration with eight comedians from Yoshimoto Kogyo. This event was widely introduced in media such as TV, newspapers, and the websites, and had a great repercussion on the Japanese society. After 2016, Digital Kids aims for further expansion by conducting not only in Tokyo, but also in regional areas such as Fukuoka and Sendai.
2-Building new learning tools
Digital Kids also focuses on developing contents that fosters children's cognitive and expression skills. This includes the development of digital children’s books. Not only do we develop contents, but also hold “Digital Children’s Book Fair”, which is one of the world’s largest book fair that exhibit digital children’s books gathered from more than 40 countries worldwide, and also “Digital Ehon Award”.
In addition, Digital Kids actively work on the development of educational tools to promote children 's creative learning and design future learning.
3-Building new learning frameworks
Digital Kids is engaged in promoting informatization of education, in efforts to expand children’s learning experiences.
"DiTT (Association of Digital Textbook & Teaching)" has been working to deliver high quality digital textbooks to all children in Japan since 2010.
Under the programming education dissemination project, programming education was delivered to 25,000 children in collaboration with schools and local governments, and teacher’s training classes were conducted through workshops and lectures to over 1,000 teachers in one year.
In addition, we run a website called “Computer Science for All”, which share and disseminate ideas and lesson examples of programming education gathered from across the country.
Our continuous promotion has been successful, and now the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has announced in their interim report to undergo a legislative reform to officially recognize digital textbooks as a textbook. Moreover, programming education will be mandatory in elementary schools from 2020, and we are now addressing the issues that need to be tackled upon implementation.
