The SAMCARA Cement Project wins Tokyo Governor’s Award at the Japan Handmade of The Year 2024

The Cement Project, led by KMD’s SAMCARA, received the Tokyo Governor’s Award at the Japan Handmade of The Year 2024. This project focuses on developing environmentally friendly concrete materials, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. They explore new design possibilities such as thin, paint-free panels and textures, and have recently ventured into creating plant pots and considering the use of upcycled construction materials. The project received high praise in the Tokyo review for its innovative approach to developing low-impact concrete materials using recycled denim and its commitment to exploring new design possibilities. Additionally, the collaboration between universities and small businesses to pursue innovative initiatives was recognized for its potential for business development.
