CrafTouch to Be Exhibited at JAPAN CRAFT EXPO – Osaka/Kansai Expo 2025
A Co-Creation Project for Digital Transmission of Traditional Craftsmanship Skills Since April 2024, the Japan Craft & Locality Association, Ikutouen, Keio University, Nagoya Institute of Technology, and commissure Inc. have been working together on CrafTouch, a collaborative project exploring how digital technology can preserve and pass down the refined skills of traditional artisans. Set at Ikutouen, a Tsuboya pottery studio with 300 years of history in Okinawa, the project uses cutting-edge haptics and robotics to digitally record and share the embodied knowledge of craftspeople. The Keio University Graduate School of Media Design (KMD) 2025 is a finalist in this year’s International BioDesign challenge in New York City.  The KMD submission to the International Biodesign Challenge focuses on an innovative seaweed project utilizing Sargassum muticum, native to Japan but an invasive seaweed species in other geographies.
