[Event Purpose]
The Keio University Graduate School of Media Design (KMD) is dedicated to developing “Media Innovators”—leaders who can independently drive innovation and generate value for society.
At the core of KMD’s activities are “Real Projects,” where students maintain a balance between theory and practice. They guide ideas from initial concept through to market-ready innovations that deliver tangible social impact in collaboration with external communities.
We are launching the “KMD Serendipity Series,” a new series of practical events designed to let you experience KMD’s design methodology firsthand. Through interactive sessions and direct dialogue with faculty members, this program will offer a real look into day-to-day project activities at KMD and showcase the seeds of innovation we are cultivating for the next generation.
[Vol. 1 Theme: Deep Tech and Social Design]
The theme for our inaugural session is “Deep Tech and Social Design.” KMD Associate Professors Ryuma Shineha and Shota Nagayama will present cutting-edge insights into how deep tech shapes our social structures and lifestyles to generate new value.
We will also cover KMD’s specific project workflows and learning environment, providing an open space for direct conversation with attendees. We look forward to your participation!

[Speaker Profiles]
Ryuma Shineha (Associate Professor, KMD)
Completed his Ph.D. at the Graduate School of Biostudies, Kyoto University (Ph.D. in Life Sciences). He held positions as Assistant Professor at the Graduate University for Advanced Studies (SOKENDAI), Associate Professor at Seijo University, and Associate Professor at Osaka University before joining KMD. His current research explores science and technology governance from the perspective of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), integrating the analysis of Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (ELSI) surrounding advanced technologies, media analysis, communication design, and policy analysis. Author of Introduction to Responsible Science and Technology Governance (Nakanishiya Shuppan, 2020).
Shota Nagayama (Associate Professor, KMD)
Earned his Ph.D. in Media and Governance in 2017. He joined Mercari, Inc. as a Senior Researcher in April 2018 and began concurrently serving as an Adjunct Associate Professor at Keio University’s Graduate School of Media and Governance in June 2022, before assuming his current position in April 2025. He currently serves as Representative of the Quantum Internet Task Force, Board Member of the WIDE Project, Steering Committee Member of the IPSJ Special Interest Group on Quantum Software, and Committee Member of the IEICE Technical Committee on Quantum Communication Networks. He previously served as Project Manager (PM) for JST Moonshot R&D Goal 6 (“Scalable and Robust Integrated Quantum Communication System”).
